Georgian 15ct Gold Garnet Heart Mourning Pendant, 'This Hair I Wear, I Love Most Dear'

Sold

Fall in love with the sentiment of this Georgian 15ct Gold Garnet heart mourning pendant!

Crafted by hand in England circa 1780 from 15ct Gold, flat-cut Garnets and the sweetest motto, this mourning pendant is one of its kind.

The front of the piece reads "This Hair I Wear, I Love Most Dear", with a double heart that has been woven from hair. As you look towards the back of the piece, there is a tree of life, which acts as a symbol of the afterlife; this is also woven from hair and makes this an incredibly rare find.

Condition

VERY GOOD. This Georgian 15ct Gold Garnet mourning pendant is in very good condition. The Garnets are secure, and all original to the piece. The inside of the piece has been meticulously hand-crafted, and the writing is still legible. The double heart is so sweet and the tree of life mesmerising. There is a hairline split running down the left side of the central paper, and the 'W' to the word wear has come away slightly, but this is the only sign of wear to a piece over 250 years old. The bale is sturdy and the pin works well so you can wear this highly coveted piece of Georgian jewellery with absolute confidence.
